From Beth Blankenship at Madison High School in Virginia: After two years of jumping over technical and logistical hurdles to bring Mastery Transcript Learning Records to Madison High School, students and teachers collaborated together over the course of a year to make Mastery Transcript Learning Records a reality at our large suburban public school. Students collaborated together to decide what they believe school should be and the interdisciplinary skills they wanted to showcase evidence of to colleges and employers. From brainstorming to developing the wording to deciding on competency numbers and levels, students drove the Mastery Transcript process and taught the teachers, principal, school, and district leadership a thing or two about what competency really looks like when you give kids a chance to lead change.
