Submission + Publication Guidelines

for the What School Could Be Chronicle

Are you writing about transformational, student centered practices? Do you have a story or idea to share with the What School Should Be (WSCB) community? The WSCB Chronicle publishes one member article and one spotlight article each month, oriented to the WSCB learning strands of Mobilize Your Community, Student-Driven Learning, Real-World Challenges, Evidence of Deeper Learning, and Caring & Connected Communities.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Articles should inspire new ideas or practices, and should offer practical steps for readers; please see previous publications in the Chronicle before submitting your work.

  • Articles should fall between 1,000-2,000 words, not including title and author biography.

  • Submissions can include external links to resources mentioned, as well as 1-2 images or figures to illustrate a point as needed (please note specifically if images are created by AI).

  • Please include a short biography (3-4 sentences maximum) and photo of the author with your submission, as well as high resolution copies of any images to be included.

  • Submissions should be sent to jennifer@whatschoolcouldbe.org

Important Notes:

  • The WSCB Chronicle will not accept simultaneous submissions but will consider previously published work.

  • The WSCB Chronicle will hold all rights to a published article for three (3) months from its date of publication; after three (3) months, all rights return to the author, who is welcome to republish with proper attribution to WSCB and a link to the Chronicle publication included (i.e. “Published originally by the WSCB Chronicle on [date], available at [link]”).

  • The WSCB Chronicle will not publish the same author more than twice in one calendar year, with an ideal gap of six months between articles.
