Bold Educators. Remarkable Initiatives.
Educators throughout Maine are supporting students in meaningful inquiry-to-action projects after being trained to use the Solutionary Framework to help students identify local problems and create ethical, actionable solutions.
What School Could Be is eager to share the impact that working with the Solutionary Framework, created by the Institute for Humane Education (IHE), is having on students, teachers, and communities throughout the state.
These films and stories capture just a sampling of the problems students in Maine are addressing—like food waste, fast fashion, single-use plastics, and mental health issues—with the support of the educators who participated in the Maine Solutionaries Project, a federally funded collaboration between IHE and the Maine Department of Education.
While educators around the world are using the Solutionary Framework, Maine has the highest concentration of teachers (with 344 trained over an 18-month period) equipped to guide solutionary projects. Maine is laying the groundwork for what it would look like for a state to graduate a generation of solutionaries—imagine if more states and countries followed.
Watch. Be inspired. Share. The future of education is taking shape in Maine — we invite you to be part of it. If you would like to learn more about these initiatives, or if you are interested in hosting a screening and discussion of these films, please contact us at info@whatschoolcouldbe.org.
